With Google Maps 9.9 update on Android phones, the LG Watch Urbane and other smart watches with the latest version of Android Wear they can use miniaturized iteration Maps.
The latest update of Google Maps on your Android 9.9 finally brings Android Wear cell and has a full app of Google Maps, in addition to transparency in the status bar when the app is used in the phone.
After updating Google Maps, Maps icon appears in the section Android Apps Wear. There you can start the app to view and navigate the world, look for stores or nearby places, see your location and start sailing directly from the smart watch.
At the moment, this seems to work only in the LG Watch Urbane, perhaps because it has the latest version of Android Wear. When testing with the Sony SmartWatch 3 having Android 5.0.2 instead of 5.1.1, the new icon appears, but Google Maps does not work and said that the supported version of Maps was “launched shortly”.
The new app is basically a simplified version of Google Maps on the phone. You have controls to zoom in or zoom out on the map, show your location and find nearby attractions. In addition, the navigation map now shows you the background where you are and not simply the direction you need to take, as it has done previously in these devices. Also, you have access to all navigation details.
When you start a navigation app Google Maps opens automatically on your cell, but it is not necessary to remove the phone from his pocket unless not you have enabled GPS. Navigation also works on environment screen mode (or when the screen is not fully active), showing a map and directions in black and white.
The first time you start the app in the smart watch this did not work properly and locked. But after a couple of attempts, the app function properly in the majority of my tests, although it is possible that an update of Google Play Services is on the way for greater stability.
Although this version Google Maps on Android Wear offers many more features, the app in the cell remains a little easier to use and display the map. However, I confess that this is something I’ve been waiting since the beginning of Android Wear, since follow the navigation watch with Android Wear formerly was a little confusing because you had a lot of control to see what were the directions to follow or where it was actually located.
