Office is now available on Android phones – FORTUNE

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) – The US software giant Microsoft on Wednesday allowed access to Word, Excel and PowerPoint in the smartphone to use the Android operating system from rival Google.

“I am pleased to announce that the new versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications are available on Android phones,” Kirk wrote Wednesday Koenigsbauer, vice president of Microsoft Office.

The Word, PowerPoint and Excel applications were available since January in the form of separate applications on Android tablets.

As for OneNote, which is part of Office, is now available as Android app.

These applications are free, but Office 365 subscribers have premium features.

Microsoft hopes to repeat the success with the Office applications for the smartphone and tablets that use the Apple iOS system.

In the long term, the group led by Satya Nadella expected to encourage users to use Office 365.
