Android reigns among the "smartphones" - The Miami Herald

class=”dateline”> Washington – The Android mobile operating system Google extended its dominance in the field of smart phones in the U.S. and other major markets in early 2013, according to a survey published Monday.

The survey

Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, Android was used in 49.3% of smartphones class=”italic”> sold in the U.S. market in the first quarter, compared to 43.7% who used Apple’s iOS, the operating system of the iPhone.

Android

has increased his lead over a year ago, when Apple surpassed by a margin of 47.9 to 44.6%.

other major markets was even more dominant Android: accounted for 93.5% of smartphones in Spain, 73.6% in Germany and 69.4% in China.

Japan was the only country in the survey that Apple was in the lead, with a market share of 49.2% to 45.8% for Android.

But the survey also showed increases in several countries to a relative outsider , the Windows Phone from Microsoft, after the presentation of the updated platform in late 2012.

United States, Windows increased its share to 5.6% from 3.7% a year, said Kantar. Windows grabbed 10.9% of smartphone sales in Italy, 7.2% in France and 7.0% in Britain.

“As iOS and Android still struggling to record the best-selling smartphone operating systems, we have seen that Windows has grown steadily over the past year and is now at its highest sales so far,” Kantar analyst said, Mary-Ann Parlato.

“The strength of Windows seems to be the ability to attract early buyers of smartphones, passing from a basic feature phone,” he said, adding that this means that the outlook is positive for Windows, especially in the United USA.

“With more than half the U.S. market even with a basic feature phone, it is likely that many update their device over the next year, which will contribute to further growth of the Windows brand,” said Parlato.
