Android gaining ground in the mobile market, while ... - The Wall Street Journal Americas

Apple Inc. continued to be the segment leader smartphone manufacturers in terms of market share in the U.S. in the three months ended June, and Google Inc. Android platform remained the most widely used smart phones, reported Wednesday market research firm comScore Inc.

Android market share rose to 79.3% in the second quarter. compared to 69.1% a year earlier, helped in large part by a wave of new phones from Chinese manufacturers.

The number of people in the U.S. smartphones having increased 4% from March to 142 million. The Apple market share grew to 39.9% from 39%, but Samsung Electronics Co. rose at a faster pace, to 23.7% from 21.7%. HTC Corp., Motorola Google and LG Electronics Inc. lost market share.

remained at the top of the rankings for the participation of mobile platforms, with 52%. The improvement of the Apple platform matched his rise in the market share of devices. The Blackberry platform Ltd. fell again, to 4.4% from 5.2%. Microsoft Corp. rose to 3.1% from 3%.
