This time we will not talk about market shares across platforms and devices, and that despite being relevant to check the health of a data platform, affecting very little the average user and do not represent the life course useful as a terminal that updates refers . What is very interesting is support after the purchase of a device, ie, the average time after a terminal that hits the market and is still receiving updates on the portfolio of the manufacturer. Thus support iOS leaves again in a complete fool of Android.

the other day we show the disparity in the number of teams in each updated to the latest version of each of the operating systems respectively, today we bring a table that shows the fragmentation and platforms neglect of Android device manufacturers when keep their teams. Not only that, there are times of relatively recent terminals that have never been installed the newest version of Android available since its release. Intersante, right, for much clearer if we see graphically:

03-ios-android

Some interesting facts we can draw from the above table:

  • 10 of the 16 terminals Android were discontinued in a year or so after its release .
  • 6 out of 16 terminals have never been installed the latest version of Android.
  • 4 out of 16 Android devices no further updates after a year
  • None of the 12 devices received updated information throughout the period of 2 years after its release, with the exception of the first four, which are scheduled to receive update.
  • 13 of the 15 terminals had two previous versions within the contract period of two years.
  • 8 out of 16 devices were installed at least 2 previous versions of the current system to the year of its release
  • Nexus is the only terminal that had the current version of Android for 1 year and 10 months.
  • The iPhone 3GS was the latest version of iOS for 4 years and 3 months.

As we see, the disparity between manufacturer support is alarming when compared with iOS . And this is a problem, not for Apple users, but rather for Android, and represents very clearly guarantees that the average user gets with the purchase of an iPhone over the competition. Today having the terminal manufacturer warranty regarding updates is the best insurance we can have. Many never have been installed the latest version of Android

In this sense, we have to remember that most new versions of the system include, apart from the new user, security updates . Thus we find that many Android handsets coming to market with security holes even though they are already corrected by a later version that are not going to update or during the first year after marketing.

here that iOS has a more direct superlative advantage over its competitor . All terminals of Apple have maintained fairly high cycle updates, running out just when support have been discontinued, and in rare cases. Terminals as the iPhone 3G S or iPhone 4 have enjoyed the latest version of iOS available until two years after his arrival in users, which so far, has not fulfilled any Android terminal.

reach the market with security holes and are fixed in a later version And it seems that none of this has medium-term solution. Meanwhile, Android developers will still puzzling features to your apps in a multitude of systems and a multitude of devices, while iOS account for 70% of its end goal with the same OS, will increase in number coming years. And developers are all on one platform.

More than

(and shrinking) promotes theoretical freedom that Android and its users used as flag conquest is guaranteed to have adequate support in the medium term, and this case that freedom is too expensive. If not, ask any iOS user terminal with two years ago. Right.
