The new Gmail app for Android has a new look, a new way to add accounts and more efficient interface.

Google started Android 5.0 enable Lollipop Monday, but also announced new features in Google Calendar and Gmail quite significant. Gmail for Android gets a new design and will continue enabling these days, with a new look and change the inbox that will make it easier to use.

Obviously Gmail is something you get by default in all Android phones, but the new devices with Android 5.0 Lollipop and to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream and above will receive the new version of the app, with some particularly interesting features that I want you to present.

New design

The first thing that is obvious when you see the new Gmail is a red band at the top. Even comes down menu on the left side that allows you to switch accounts and view the categories of Gmail including Primary, Social, Promotions and Updates.

But the new Gmail also feels cleaner, based on the new aesthetic design material which is part of the new features of Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The more white space and make it look flatter iOS Apple remembering without ceasing to be a product of Google. A slight change is the use of round icons for your contacts (instead of the squares of the previous version) gives a feeling of more space, which felt that the new version is more comfortable.

You will also notice that now the sliding menus for each category have an associated icon, making it easier to navigate and review.

Not only for Gmail

Probably the biggest change in the new Gmail is the ability to add email accounts from other services. Now you can add the app both IMAP and POP services like Yahoo Mail as well as email addresses Outlook.com. In the past, you could add these accounts to your Android phone, but you could only see your email accounts on the phone’s email app, not Gmail. This is important to make the Android Gmail app your default client step – if it was not already – because you get much more flexibility to see all your accounts in one place

Interaction with Inbox

Some of the changes to Gmail are fairly mild on the surface but they facilitate daily use app.

Now, the button to write a new message is in the bottom right of the screen to start writing a new email at the time you want. There is a reply button at the bottom of all emails for you to answer as you finish reading.

Another change is that many of the common shares increased from hidden menus to be part of the interface the Gmail app. In your inbox, there is a button on the top right to move your emails (or groups of emails) quickly to a different folder, while displaying a new message button for attachments is now in the upper right corner. These functions are not new in the sense that it did not exist before, but take them off and put them on the menu interface makes them much easier to use and more efficient.

New actions for swipe gesture

In the old app for Gmail only you had the option to delete an email by swiping your finger over it. But new role, somewhat hidden in the settings, now lets you choose what action you want to run when you slide your finger on a leash.

If you go to the general settings, you will now see a list of actions that you want that run by default. You can choose File, which stores the message in the account, or Delete the email completely. Once you choose your choice, every time you pass your finger over an e held that action by default. Not a telling change, but it’s good to finally have that option.

A better way to use Gmail

The new app Gmail will not leave mouth open with the new features. Instead, these mild changes offer a more refined interface to make things easier. Undoubtedly, the ability to access other email accounts other than Gmail is a huge advantage because it reduces the number of apps you need to check your email.

However, in the end change sensations usually mainly on. There is more space and does not feel as tight as you browse. And with more buttons outside, now integrated into the menu interface, the most common actions taken fewer steps, which will make your daily reading of your emails more efficient.
