Why Cyanogen can put serious strain on Android – Gizmodo in Spanish

Why & # xE9; Cyanogen can put serious strain on Android

CyanogenMod is one of the most popular custom ROMs Android ecosystem, and their eagerness to get away from Google and services company marked a before and after that could embarrass Android as a business. Simply put, a truly free operating system is no longer negocio.http: //es.gizmodo.com/como-instalar -…

Cyanogen few hours ago ( the company now responsible for the famous ROM) announced an agreement with Microsoft to integrate applications of their services (as OneDrive, OneNote, Bing and Skype, for example) in the modified version of Android developed by this company, directed by Kirt McMaster.

Although many were expecting this announcement sooner or later, especially after so many rumors even claimed that Microsoft would invest in Cyanogen, the fact still surprises me how Cyanogen want out of Google, without this meaning away from Android.

Because McMaster says he wants a version of Android to be open and free for any developer to create applications Cool on it, without being “slave” Google services such as Google Play Services, GMail and more ROMs. And we all know that Android developed by the Mountain View never will. Even Jean-Baptiste QUERU, who was the head of the AOSP ( Android Open Source Project ) abandoned the project because he disagreed with the practices surrounding him.

Now, Cyanogen could be a problem for Google Android. That may not be the case today, not tomorrow, but in a couple of years Cyanogen could have so much presence and popularity at the enterprise level that would steal the attention (and users) to Google. Why is it important? The ROM Cyanogen does not carry Google’s services, ie, do not generate income, no traffic, no more users, which is what the company cares.

CyanogenMod is extremely popular among users because it continues to support older devices whose manufacturers already forgot that exist, such as the Nexus One and the first Galaxy S, for example. Now, Cyanogen wants to escape from “the tyranny of Google” and be completely independent of its services, as more brands (like Micromax and OnePlus) take the ROM as its platform. We saw what happened with Xiaomi (creators of the ROM MIUI), nothing remains that Cyanogen get support from an Asian manufacturer to inject money and start seeing more and more smartphones with this system in the world.

Google is increasingly closing the limits of Android development level. The reality is that it is not as free as promised for years, and expected. Cyanogen is proposing a free platform independent (at least for now) and from Google. More than a company will call attention to the plight start and Android. Will Google change their practices in this regard? I doubt
