Google released Android (7.0) Nougat last August, and since then, the operating system has achieved only a little over 1 percent of adoption, according to official figures from the company.

The version 7.0, the first that was released, has just 0.9 percent, according to figures covering up to the 6th of February. Version 7.1 of Nougat, released in more recent dates, has 0.3 percent of installation in devices.

The figure may seem very little (and it is), but shows signs of progress. Just in January, version 7.0 had a 0.2 percent share, an increase of 0.7 percent in just one month. This is mainly due to that in January Nougat began to arrive on the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, two of the most popular phones in the ecosystem.

As announced in the report of January, Froyo, the version of Android most long-lived, no longer exists as an operating system used, after nearly seven years of availability.

The version of Android is most used continues to be Lollipop, with 32.9 percent; Marshmallow remains with the 30.7 percent. KitKat takes the 21.9 percent, and Jelly Bean is left behind, with 11.3 percent, according to figures from Google.

The inevitable comparison

Android Nougat arrived a few weeks before iOS 10, the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, released in mid-September.

At the same time, Apple has achieved an adoption of the 76 percent, according to official figures from the company and taking into account that Apple only posts the rate of installation until 4 January. iOS 9, released in 2015, has 18 percent.

The difference lies in the fact that each manufacturer must test Android Nougat in its various models compatible with the operating system; after testing, it is sent to the devices and the operators should do the same. Which takes time and generates despair in the users, that already want to try the newer versions of Android.
