last March CarPlay Apple announced the initiative to integrate our iPhones in the car. With the passage of time has added more brands to its collection. During the last Google I / O, the search engine company showed Android Auto (Automotive Open successor to its Alliance). Both companies are you betting hard to take their mobile platforms to car and make it more Smart .

That’s why I took a spin around its website and had a look at the brands and automotive groups that have been uploaded to the connected car. There are a total of 37 brands of cars, 9 are exclusive and 8 Android CarPlay Auto . 20 are shared by the two systems. While preparing the list, I thought that I would meet some standard “luxury brands tend to CarPlay”, which is not unreasonable because Apple gave so much hype Ferrari. But it is not. <- More ->

For example, Ferrari Fiat group has on the Apple platform exclusive Maserati while Android only Auto. BMW and Jaguar are also part of CarPlay and not the initiative of Google but then we have to Bentley (really weird after seeing the good feeling you have with Apple), Acura and Infiniti are the green android and not apple bite. But I’m getting ahead, it is better to take a careful look at both platforms.

Here are the signings connected car

It is amazing to see the interest that the connected car is awakening among automakers. Although we must also recognize that is a credit to Apple and Google. Negotiations have not had to be easy, especially considering the complicated business of this market where some groups often have interests over others.

Viewing the chart above, from the point of view of the consumer happy to know that companies not excessively polarizing . We are still seeing the first steps of this market and would be worrying that they start to be declared exclusives. Choosing a car is not like choosing any other accessory for our smartphones. Personally, I do not want to have to choose one brand or another brand depending on my mobile. So glad to see that there are 20 brands that support both systems. Sure in the future we will see.

Another issue is the integration of both systems in each of the cars sold. This would prevent the election of a car, with the long life they have, by anchoring us to a particular mobile platform for many years. What if I want to switch to Android or iOS Android to iOS? The ideal solution is that the user can activate any of the two systems at will.

Large absent

Tesla Al end of the post you will find the full list of brands that support every system organized by automotive groups. Surely by looking at the chart above you’ve noticed that missing a few marks . Porsche or Lamborghini are notably absent but certainly if Tesla is the strangest of all.

is the new Tesla car company fashion. It is a young, highly technological, cars generate much excitement and then, last February, there were rumors about a possible partnership with Apple. However, if you look inside one of the cars you’ll see A 17-inch screen welcomes you . A control system of the car and very sophisticated entertainment whose surrender to Android or iOS should cause real pain to Elon Musk, CEO. It’s not an easy decision but refusing to adopt both systems could well leave them by the wayside in a few years.

In conclusion, we must keep three good news. The first is that more companies sharing Auto CarPlay Android to exclude one. The second is that we are still in the early stages of this emerging market, no doubt we will have more news about him in the future. The third is that for users of iOS is already working on two brands after sales solutions CarPlay: Alpine and Pioneer. Solutions for all tastes, which one do you prefer? compañías_de_coches.png
