Cuba launches medical app for Android phones – El Nuevo Herald

Cuba announced on Thursday its first medical application is already available, the National Formulary, for phones with Android operating system and the Internet <. / p>

The contents of the new program are mainly aimed at health professionals, but are not restricted to public access, explained ?? INFOMED ?? digital site.

This application arises complement the work of the specialists of the Editorial Committee of the National Drug Formulary Cuba, the content is available in print and online digital format, as a source of information on the Virtual Health Library.

The new software features search engines alphabetical, pharmacological class, presentation and risks of different drugs; and include a guide to medicinal plants with descriptions, origin, other healing properties and uses thereof.

The Android platform belongs to Internet giant Google on Wednesday announced that its Chrome browser which can be downloaded in Cuba, as part of an easing of economic sanctions and trade embargo applied by the Government of the United States to the island for over 50 years.

But the Cubans still can not access other services such as Google Analytics or Google Hangouts.

In Cuba mobile phones have no network to connect to the Internet, but is expected to provide that service before year end.

The number of mobile phone subscribers on the island at the end of 2013 was 1,995,700 customers, representing a coverage of 85.3%, according to the latest data available.

It is not easy for Cubans connect the network from households only option allowed professionals like doctors, journalists, academics, intellectuals and artists, while the inhabitants of the island are connected to the network from public navigation facilities or hotels, at expensive prices for most population.
