The debacle of updates to Android Lollipop Sony – Hypertext

The debacle of updates to Android Lollipop Sony – Hypertext

After MWC 2015 Pretty decaffeinated Sony , whose presence was dominated by the presentation of Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia Z4 Tablet, the Japanese company has begun update their latest high-end devices to Android 5.0 Lollipop, namely the Xperia and Xperia Z3 Z3 Compact.

This news did not emphasize too before the rest we have daily updates on terminal but it was because Lollipop was presented over four months ago. In fact, Sony was the last major manufacturer to update Android to the latest operating system Google, and even manufacturers with heavier layers Layer Customization Sony have already upgraded to Lollipop as is the case with the Samsung Galaxy S5, S4 and Galaxy Note 4 or LG with LG G3.

HTC One M8, one of the terminals that have been updated before Sony’s high-end.

In comparison with other manufacturers, the case is further aggravated . For example, HTC has not only updated their One (M8), but have also brought Android 5.0 for One (M7) despite having two years old, and even manufacturers with terminals that are not premium as the Motorola Moto G have already been updated. And when terminals were presented before and cost a third of what they cost yours are updates before Android Lollipop, you know that have a serious problem on our hands.

Perhaps a more realistic as updating the Xperia Z1 onwards goal, Sony had managed to meet deadlines.
addition, this situation Lollipop Android Sony has increased by the promises of the company itself . The last October said it would update all the Xperia Z range to Lollipop, which for quite veterans devices like the Xperia Z were very good news. Sony said that these updates come in early 2015 for the most recent oldest devices and versions would incorporated, and during the CES 2015 Japanese company said that by February all devices in this range would be updated.

Do you see the problem we are talking about? Sony not only had to delay the term update for its smartphones and tablets for more than a month, something somewhat understandable because the great change that is Lollipop, but above updated very gradually and without covering all devices promised in the beginning, and even though Kaz Hirai promised back at MWC 2015 that the Xperia Z range would be updated during the month of March we doubt very much that the update arrives before the end of the month

The Xperia Z3 is a fantastic high end, but his Upgrade late Lollipop is something to consider.

I also worry the other terminals beyond the high end, since no is not the first time that Sony leaves terminals in the gutter in terms of updates. Obviously, it is very difficult to bring all cases but one that I particularly hurt me was the promised update to Android KitKat Xperia SP, fantastic terminal and has aged very well despite this update that never arrived. Other cases were quite embarrassing Sony’s 2011 range was updated only once, or the Xperia S, a smartphone that stayed in Android 4.1 as the Galaxy S2, despite having left a year later. The list goes on and on.

However, as this case is puzzling why this happens. Sony has a layer of fairly light customization and a priori should not be difficult to update, in addition to equality before the other manufacturers when you receive source of new versions code, yet they are always left behind by competition. I refuse to believe that Sony is so bad with software , and if yes are so bad at updating as they seem, need urgent help with this issue. Such a policy will not retain their users for a long time, and this is especially troubling when you consider his last financial results .
