Unofficial Android iMessage, a risk for our accounts ... - Unofficial (blog)

iMessage for Android now available in the app store Google Play. With nothing to do with the official messaging application created by Apple, iMessage for Android allows us to send messages between iOS and Android devices. Unfortunately the application includes features that put under suspicion the true intentions of its developers.

Apple messaging service iMessage was a revolution for users of iOS and OS X. Integrated into the application messages can be sent from texts, sound files, videos and images from any iOS device or Mac And now unofficially , also from Android. Since September 12 is available on Google Play iMessage for Android . This unofficial application allows us to communicate between iOS and Android devices in the same way that iMessage.

With a design very similar to the original application iOS 5 , iMessage for Android only requires an Apple account ID to start to be used. Its developer, Daniel Zweigart, has managed to use the same communication protocol used by Apple iMessage to send both text and pictures or videos to all kinds of iOS and Android devices .

But not everything could be good news. As reported several means, iMessage for Android could be a potential source of malware. Users who enter their own Apple ID and password can not guarantee that your data is safe as all are being collected by its developer , knowing the end of it. Recall that in our Apple ID accounts are both bank details credit card associated with it and other important files stored in iCloud.

Some developers like Adam Bell and Jay Freeman (aka Saurik, creator of Cydia) , have discovered more about iMessage for Android. Apparently the application connects to the official Apple server posing as a Mac mini and send all communications through a server running on China. It is therefore a third party server that first receives messages and then send them to Apple and vice versa. What does this mean? That quite possibly all communications via iMessage for Android could be being monitored and stored by developer . Undoubtedly, iMessage for Android can be a great news for many users, but more like an application for malware. In addition to the above, the application has the ability to download and install software in the background so you could install on your Android terminal all kinds of files.

If you’re still curious to test the application, consider the risks: not supported by Apple and very possibly it is malware. The best in these cases is use an Apple ID associated not to any sensitive data and discover how iMessage for Android.
