The mobile software from Google, Android was the big winner in the recent shipments of cell phones, said the market research firm Strategy Analytics this week.

According to the figures, Android captured 88 percent of all the smartphone that are sent during the third quarter of 2016, a period which also marks the fastest growth rate in a year. “The gain of Android came at the expense of each of their platforms rivals,” said Linda Sui, Strategy Analytics in a press release.

“Apple’s iOS lost ground against Android and fell to 12 per cent [of market share],” in large part due to sales weak in China and Africa,” said the researcher.

And not worry about search cell BlackBerry or Microsoft Windows in the study. These “have virtually disappeared” in the period from 1 July to the end of September.

although the leadership of Android it seems definitive, the software is facing some challenges, in a market dominated by hundreds of manufacturers, few of which even registered a gain. That’s not going to improve now due to the new phone from Google, the Google Pixel, that comes to compete with the same companies that Google previously helped to popularize, said Strategy Analytics.

During the third quarter of 2016 were sent to the 375 million smartphones, up 6 percent more than the 354.2 million units shipped during the same period of the previous year. Shipments of Android phones rose 10.3 percent, while shipments of Apple phones fell 5.2 percent.
