Android, Google, KitKat and HOLO design unification and Kennedy - The Android Free

assume that in a few days, at most weeks, we have among us the new version Android 4.4 KitKat . Lately have leaked many details, screenshots and videos that suggest that 4.4 would bring, not a revolution in interface design, but many small developments and details that refine it as a whole system. There is also evidence of a possible launcher called Google Experience that in the best case scenario would imagine that Google Play and users of non-Nexus devices could obtain pure Android interface. But perhaps more KitKat suppose, as noted by Abner Li, Techtainian, maybe 4.4 try to unify the design lines between Google and Android.

Google has already tried before reduce customizations manufacturers in the (as TouchWiz, Sense, or other), one of the most recent cases is the stock Android keyboard, which became available from Play, like other Google Apps such as Calendar or Gmail, staying out of the general system updates.

launcher

Google Experience course would have a complete experience , pure, how Android should be, on any device, although it has a customization layer that affects the entire system. Currently, when you install a launcher, change the appearance of the desktop, the application drawer and little else. There are elements, such as the notification bar and its contents to deploy, they do not change when you install a launcher, ie if we have a Samsung, we can customize a launcher, but to lower the bar or enter the settings continue to see the layer TouchWiz.

Perhaps the Google Experience

Launcher includes the possibility of providing a complete experience for the user and for that Google must convince the user Pure Android is “best for him” and that is where the tremendous marketing campaign with Nestle .

HOLOCHART

Larry Page , CEO of Google, the company sent a message together complete redesign of all services. That mandate was called Project Kennedy and its purpose was to unify the design all Google products , except for Android, since this design was and is directed by Matias Duarte. So in this latest version of Android may see a crossover design and unification between Chrome OS, Android and iOS, which allows the user to go through a learning curve when it passes from one terminal to another or from one operating system to another. An example of this is in the pictures above, you can see how in 4.4 are a more consistent and similar to the Google design line.

But all this is not new, far from it. Google takes a long time to find a design-level cohesion between its entirety, and since Larry Page became CEO in 2011 much of their efforts have been directed towards this idea. The project already ringing Kennedy began in early 2013, and since then has developed the strategy of a single look, and look nice.

Larry Page has had things clear from the start, and strive for a unified design is anything but simple. Maybe now we are close to a unification between HOLO and Kennedy Project, and that applications to become the most important part of the operating system in design and unification is concerned.

Thus, as pointed Abner Li, Google is facing a double fragmentation . External , “fighting” against manufacturers layers, preventing the user to enjoy the Android experience and visual direction Google wants to, and internal , unifying design Android with presenting the other services on the Web or in other systems. As he says, Android 4.4 “is the Trojan Horse of unification”. It’s no coincidence that becomes known the name KitKat by partnering with Nestle and marketing campaign they are doing .
