All new Kia models will come with Android (standard or optional)

green robot gets back driving gloves, this time to be at the controls of future Kia models. The South Korean carmaker, which until now had felt so warm and even doubtful with his platform UVO infotainment, plans to adopt a new system of connection to Android-based smartphones.

As reported in the national press, this new combination of hardware and software make use of Google’s mobile operating system, will have its own app store and own integration features for phones with Android and iOS. Its closest rival is the Ford SYNC, pioneering platform can boast of being the most advanced in the market by virtue of being also one of the oldest and most established.

Recall that the current version of UVO (which practically only marketed in the U.S.) is not derived from Android, but Windows Embedded Automotive, the solution offered by Microsoft for car manufacturers to develop their own media centers based on Windows CE. Not know the reason why Kia has decided to opt for UVO developing Android 2.0, but not too surprising considering that this change not long ago the company announced that its upcoming models will feature Google Maps and Places.

first Android Kia vehicles will be the new Soul (top) and Genesis, which will go on sale in late 2013, but the idea is to introduce the UVO 2.0 platform on all models of the manufacturer, to the point of that there will be a single release in 2014 that does not have Android “by default or as an option.” For now know what the position of Hyundai, the parent of Kia, but we know that Samsung has opted for Tizen for vehicles manufactured in South Korea by Renault.
