ESET presented his research ‘The rise of ransomware in … – Vanguardia Liberal

ESET, the leader in proactive threat detection company, published its report entitled ‘The rise of ransomware in Android’ at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona and records the development trend this malware .

Whether through encryption capabilities (such as ESET discovered in 2014 with Simplocker), lock PIN (as LockerPin, identified by ESET in 2015) or simply lock screen, this type of malware endangers Android users.

the study’s authors, researchers from ESET Robert Lipovský, Lukas Stefanko and Gabriel Branisa conclude that the threat of ransomware have evolved in recent years, and malware adopted many of the same techniques that have proven effective in malware normal desktop.

Both Windows and Android, blockades screens, usually, they are of the “police ransomware,” which tries to scare victims into paying, after accusing them (falsely) to download illegal content on their devices. Just as Windows cryptolocker, crypto-ransomware on Android uses strong cryptography, which means that the affected users have no practical way to recover the hijacked files. Because data every day, such as photos, for example, are kept on smart phones instead of PCs, the threat of loss of this data is now higher.

“To users of Android devices is important to be aware of the threats and take preventive measures, among which stand out avoid stores unofficial applications and have a mobile security application installed and updated. It is also important to have a copy of functional safety of all important data on your device, “explains Robert Lipovsky, ESET researcher
