NewPipe is an application open source, lightweight, Material Design, which does not require you to sign in with Google, or that have installed Google Play Services on your Android. It allows you to do almost everything you can do with the official YouTube app, but also has extra features that anyone may find useful: download videos or audio
. the application is only available in the repository of open-source software F-Droid -for obvious reasons-of which we have spoken before and recommended it to be a good alternative to Google Play Store.
the most interesting features of NewPipe are:
- Play videos in a click
- Listen to audio from videos in the background, ie you can open other applications while listening to music on YouTube.
- Download audio and video in various formats
- Export audio and video to other players
- Make search for content
- Use Tor to increase your privacy
Although the application is quite new, it can be used without problems and delivers what it promises. In the future, more features will be added as bookmarks, history, search within channels, management of subscriptions and playlists. You can follow the development from its page on GitHub.
To install you need to download the APK file and make sure allow installation from unknown sources in the security settings of Android.
