When WhatsApp started its activities in 2009, the emerging smartphone market was dominated by Nokia and BlackBerry with 70% share. The iPhone was only two years and Android was still in diapers. Windows Phone was still a dream.
The market today is completely different and for a company it makes little sense to maintain dedicated to update an application for consumer platforms with very few equipment. Google, Apple and Microsoft have 99.5% market share of smart phones and WhatsApp hence the decision to end support for BlackBerry, BlackBerry 10 included, some versions of Android, Nokia Symbian . and Windows Phone 7.1
“These devices were important in our history, but today do not offer the features we need to expand the possibilities of our application in the future,” said WhatsApp on his blog and added: ” we want to focus our efforts on platforms that use most. so by the end of 2016, we will no longer support teams BlackBerry , including BlackBerry 10 , Nokia S40 , Nokia Symbian S60 , Android 2.1 and 2.2 and Windows Phone 7.1 . “
WhatsApp did not explain in detail whether such equipment may stop using the application or if only they will no longer receive support. Either way, the only valid recommendation is to buy more modern equipment.
