Facebook is testing integration to send and receive text messages (SMS) in the same application of Facebook Messenger for Android.

a spokesman for Facebook confirmed this feature in a mail sent to CNET in Spanish, in response to a question about a series of images that the site Android Police published regarding with this function. the spokesman said the feature is only for a small number of users of Android in the US group.

the spokesman said that this feature is optional and to turn –or apagarla– is you have to go to Android Settings in the Change SMS app menu and select Facebook Messenger.

The spokesman did not specify how this integration works, but according to Android Police the app does not organize text messages and Facebook messages in a chat with the same person, which would be useful and that other apps, like Hangouts, already they do.

Another change is the interface, which will adopt the Android Material Design. The site notes that the design you see in these screenshots is different from what has been seen in previous leaks, so the final design that reaches users could change. The spokesman did not give any comment on the filter design.

Finally, Android Police said that Messenger for Android will support multiple accounts, so users with personal accounts, work and accounts brands soon to see messages from those accounts within the same app .

The spokesman confirmed to CNET in Spanish that this function is also being tested, but is not limited to one region, so anyone with Facebook Messenger for Android can prove it.

To add an account in Android Settings select the Messenger application and add an account. Facebook says that only the person who owns the primary account can view the contents of the messages, while others share the device can only view notifications.

Android Police, as the name makes clear, is dedicated to the world of mobile platform from Google, so it does not mention anything about Messenger for iOS. However, it stands to reason that if these functions reach the app for Android, will be the same for the app in the Apple platform. Facebook spokesman gave no details of these features to iOS.

Facebook Messenger, which already has 800 million active users per month, making good progress but is still behind WhatsApp – also on Facebook – with 1,000 million monthly users. Both figures the offered Facebook for the report of its fourth fiscal quarter, revealing that had US $ 5.841 million in revenue during the period.
