Six Android apps that will help you in the garden – LA NACION (Argentina)

Came in the days pretty, and are blooming jasmine, orange trees and azaleas. But this is also the time in which spring happy -despite the cold late – the basil, the parsley, the lettuce and tomatoes. Both for the that has a balcony as well as the account with the terrain, this is the joyful time working in the garden and in the garden.

of course, smartphones and tablets provide an invaluable aid to planning tasks, find out requirements of each plant, to control pests and diseases and to to to know which vegetables may be associated with other in the field (and what not).

There are many apps of gardens and gardening, but not all comply with what they promise and there are some that are ambitious, but mostly useless (as the listed plants only by their scientific names, which are rarely known by the user). That’s why, with the straw hat and shovel in hand, we started looking for the best there is for Android, and we found some gems.

Grow. One of the best that we found is to Cultivate, Matthias Valerio. Not only has a streamlined interface, clear and enjoyable, but it provides exactly the information that is needed to grow the vegetables and spices most popular. Just click on any of the vegetables, and we tell you if you should go to seedling or direct to the soil, when to plant, how much time passes from the plant to the harvest, the recommended volume for the pots and the distances of planting, type of soil, watering, light, and every one of the details necessary to get everything right. It also has several sections with tips, tricks, and practical advice. Excellent. One warning, however. As many apps free, put notices in the footer.

Association of Crops. This app is essential. The created From the Wild and let you know if we can put together certain plants. For example, if we are going to grow garlic, they grow easy and quick, and can be used whole (tender stems well prepared they are a delicacy), this program we recommend associations favorable, as the swiss chard, celery, eggplant and onions. And we warn you about the broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts or radish, because these do not wear well. They can look up associations manually, by plant or by botanical family. Interface is austere, but very clear. It also puts feet with notices and a notice to full-screen to exit. There are commercial version.

Garden at Home. This app Victor J. Paschal offering (also free, also with notices in the footer) a kind of course of horticulture (do not speak of flowers, trees or ornamental shrubs, but vegetables, spices and fruit). You do not have the best aspect in the world and at times can seem somewhat confusing, but it contains a huge amount of information, and very useful. Its front is divided into How to begin?, Plant List and What can I plant now? (for the northern hemisphere, but also to the south). A bonus track interesting about this program is that you can download the documentation in PDF for printing at home. Although, to say truth, with a smartphone and the right tools, reach and spare. You have to try not to fall to the wet land, or opt for a phone that is resistant to moisture.

Garden at home (bis). Is called the same as the previous, but it is the developer Brounie. Plays a role similar to that of CultivAR, but a little more visual and, above all, sorting vegetables by vegetables, spices and infusions. Adds, in addition to the information required for the cultivation of a large number of plants, tips for the consumption and tricks for planting. For example, did you know that it is advisable to put a plate turned under the squash to avoid letting it touch the ground and rot? It is one of the many tips offered by this very good program, unlike the others, it is free and does not display advertising of any kind.

Medicinal Plants. If you are interested in herbal medicine and have plans to grow some of these plants, this app Angel Acuña is a guide not only quite complete and well presented, but also offers timely warnings and responsible about the use of the medicinal, that in all cases they contain components which act on our body. There are other guides of this class in the Google store, but this is the one that we felt more secure. A garden of this type is, in some way, such as a first aid kit. It solves also by means of notices that appear at the foot, as usual.

New Planting Ideas. Yes, is in English, but only the title. The app is completely visual and is reduced to a gallery of innovative ideas to grow our plants. Although not all appear to be viable, they can all be inspiring. In this case, the notifications appear when you open the application, so it takes a little longer than normal to load.

If you found some app interesting gardening or horticulture in Spanish; and information for our region, añadila to the comments, to complete this harvest to hand. By the way, the INTA offers its KNOW Mobile and SilvoINTA, two excellent apps for the professional work in the fields of our country.

KNOW Mobile. Provides information on climate, topography, soil and vegetation indices on the basis of the geolocation of the phone or tablet. Rainfall of the last 7 and 30 days, and high temperatures to coat the last 7 days, the vegetation of the current campaign, composition of soils and other data for the style. Free of course, and no warnings.

SilvoINTA. This app works as a wizard, mobile for forestry, that is to say, the cultivation of forests. Serves to record the information of the trees in a database and allows you to perform calculations pertintentes for the control of short, as the basal area and the distribution diamétrica. These data can then be exported.

SilvoINTA is a app very powerful, although it requires professional knowledge about trees and forestry.
