Sony wants to be the first manufacturer of devices — not Google — to release the latest version of Android, 7.1.1 Nougat, as reported by the blog Xperia Blog.

With the launch of Android 7.1.1 Nougat part of Google a few days ago the development team of Sony has been taken as a priority to release this update before any manufacturer who has not worked directly with Google in the development of their phones and tablets.

Google released this update on the 5th of December for the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5, Nexus 9, Nexus 6, Pixel C, and Nexus Player.

That same day, Google released the source code for Android 7.1.1 for manufacturers and developers will begin working on this update.

however, Sony is not the only manufacturer working on this update. Apparently, Samsung is already working on Android 7.1.1 to release it for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, even with the idea of not releasing Android 7.0 first.

Sony released recently the update Android 7.0 Nougat for the Sony Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ and already confirmed what cellular Sony will get Android Nougat, but has not said when it plans to release Android 7.1.1.
