8 things you should know about Apple Music for Android – CNET in Spanish

service streaming Apple’s music has finally come to Android. So you can enjoy your music catalog, which contains more than 30 million songs, or tune the radio station Live Beats One. But most of all, Apple Music offers the first official way to do streaming music you’ve purchased from iTunes via an Android device.

This app is technically the third title of Apple for Android, after Move to iOS, an app that helps you to transfer photos, contacts and messages from one Android device to an iPhone, and Beats Pill +, which allows you to control the speaker Beats Pill. This is important because while Google has created several apps for iOS, Apple did not return the favor until this year.

At first sight, the Android and iOS apps look similar and in some instances are identical. But there are some differences that affect the overall experience of using Apple Music. Then I’ll tell you everything you need to know about Apple Music for Android.

You need an Apple ID to use

If you’ve ever bought something from iTunes, whether a song, an album, a TV show or movie, then you have an Apple ID. But, if for some reason you’ve never used the Apple products, you must create an Apple ID to use Apple Music. You can register within the app via iTunes from a computer or iCloud.com.

The design is the same but little different from iOS

Apple remained almost the same design as the original iOS app, but also acquired certain aspects of Android. True to the design of Android, the app has a Start menu that slides from the left. On the menu you’ll find (for you), New, Radio, Connect, Playlists (Playlists) and My Music (My Music) options For You. The Start menu (the three lines) keeps things a little more organized, but it makes it tedious to navigate from section to section.

Beyond menu design, the app is very similar to the version for iOS. In fact, most of the pages are almost identical and are quite crowded, with tabs crushed sections with the albums, playlists and other suggestions. That was my biggest criticism of the iOS app and remains a problem in the Android app.

All functions are there Apple Music

Justo as the app of iOS, Apple Music for Android is full of music recommendations, playlists and selected radio stations run by human beings. You can create your own list reproduction and access music you’ve purchased through iTunes on your page My Music (My music). You can download songs, playlists and albums to listen offline when you have no connection. The flange Connect lets you follow your favorite artists and see pictures, songs and other updates to share.

Beats One, the private radio station of Apple, it is available to listen day and night. When you enter, Apple will ask what genres and artists you like so you can make recommendations, as does the app on iOS. Music videos are not yet available, but Apple says it will come soon. In general, there are no obvious omissions in the Android version.

… but no voice control

One of the major absences are Voice controls, but that has more to do with iOS that Apple Music. On an iPhone, iPad or iPod, you can use Siri to control and program music or play new songs. It is one of the best features of Apple Music, because Siri understands when you ask him to play more songs similar to the one you’re listening to at the moment or when you ask him to play the most popular song of 1992.

this feature is absent from the Siri app on Android because only part of IOS. Unfortunately, you can not use voice commands to control Apple Now Google Music. For example, if I ask Google Now that “play songs by The Rolling Stones”, the wizard asks me what I want to use app with a list of options installed on my phone. Music Apple is not in that list, and if I answer “Apple Music”, Google will not understand.

Still can not subscribe to a family plan

At the moment, Android you can only point to a single monthly subscription, which costs US $ 9.99 in the app. You get three months free trial, after which you will be charged the Automatically fee if not canceled your subscription.

However, you’ll need a Mac or iOS device to upgrade to a family plan, which allows up to six people share a subscription for US $ 14.99 per month.

The Android app is still in beta

Apple Music Apple released a beta Android classification, indicating that it is not fully completed and perhaps have some flaws and problems. Although we did not encounter major problems, beyond the slow, maybe you could run into a couple of annoying things. The app is available only for devices running Android 4.3 and later, and for now does not seem to work on tablets (I could not download a Nexus 7 or Nexus 8).

There is an option to post comments beta in a menu that opens a Web page with a survey. You can notify Apple about the issues, and choose to send diagnostic data performance app automatically.

You can not use the app to play music files on your phone

Unfortunately, Apple does not work Music for Android as a player to listen to music files stored on your phone. This is important because many users of Android devices have been using their phones as MP3 for years player as well as a warehouse for his music.

Google Play Music lets you do this, so that when you transfer music files from your computer can play them in addition to streaming of songs. My Music tab in the Apple Music includes only songs you purchased from iTunes.

It is better than the services already on the market

Apple Music, which has reached several years after other services streaming music, has a lot of competition. The service streaming Google Music, Google Play Music, it’s getting better and better and is a favorite of many fans of Android. Spotify has dominated the field of streaming music for years and Rdio, Rhapsody and Pandora are popular choices. In addition, Google just announced a new service, YouTube Network, which lets you listen to music through YouTube using the YouTube Music app, which just came out.

The venture into the Android universe gives Apple Music a good opportunity to confront their opponents but, in view of its opaque launch on iOS, I do not think the service will gain many more followers on Android. Music especially since Apple does not offer much more than Spotify or Google Play Music.

However, Apple Music has two important advantages. First, Apple has exclusive music Music can not find elsewhere such as discography Taylor Swift (who got all your music on Spotify) and the latest album from Dr. Dre. Second, if you’ve spent years buying music from iTunes, and have been waiting for the arrival of a simple way to play those songs on your Android device, Apple Music offers the easiest solution. Sure, you’ll pay $ 10 a month to have that luxury, but worth it if you have a robust music library.

Apple Music was not impressed on his debut and, as a service of streaming music, not outstanding. The live radio station is a unique attraction and the ability to streaming of songs you bought a while is great, but the busy design app represents a step backwards.
