Leadership confirms Android smartphones - Terra Argentina

Internet giant Google and its Android operating system confirmed its dominance in the smart phone market in the first quarter, while Microsoft Windows was placed third behind Apple but before that Blackberry, according to a study published Thursday.

Android operating system, which is used by various manufacturers, including South Korea’s Samsung, was operating 3 out of 4 phones in the first quarter, which is exactly 75% of the market, according to Cabinet estimates IDC research.

This increases the difference with its main rival, the U.S. computer group Apple, which achieves a 17.3% market share with its own operaivo system iOS, used in the iPhone and iPad.

The duopoly leaves the rest of the competitors far behind.

Microsoft U.S. computer group, trying to recover lost ground with a mobile version more suited to your Windows system, managed to move from fourth to third position by increasing its market share from 2.6% to 3.2% due to the apparatus designed by the Finnish company Nokia.

This made the pioneer manufacturer of smartphones, the Canadian Blackberry, falling a spot (2.9% in the first quarter). IDC reveals, however, that he managed to sell a million of their latest gadgets, which have just been launched.

“The arrival of Windows Phone to the third position is a news and validates the direction taken by Microsoft and Nokia key supporter,” says Kevin Restivo, an IDC analyst.

“Having regard to the relatively weak volume generated, Windows should display other benefits to consolidate its status as an alternative to Android or iOS,” says Restivo.
