Get Your Own Photo Stream service from an Android device - Applesfera (blog)

Photostream class=”centro_sinmarco”/>

What is the best feature of iCloud? Well for me it is certainly Photo Stream , and the feature, though simple works so well and is so good that you can only surrender to it. There are many better things in it, but the basic concept is perfect .

Tomas

a photo with your iPhone in seconds is available on all your devices without requiring any synchronization or similar. Even better is the integration with iPhoto where the program is responsible for saving the pictures for months. Who regularly synchronized before your iPhone with iPhoto? Certainly not so many people like now.

But if you have an Android device in your Ecosystem iOS and OS X I imagine you’ve already discovered that there is no possibility to integrate the function on a computer running Android, but with a little skill can devise a somewhat simple way to recreate the .

Automator

To make use of this little trick we need an external service, such service will know almost everyone by now: DropBox.

large online storage system for only a few versions released a feature that allows us to automatically synchronize the images you take on your phone to the service cloud storage. Similar to Photo Stream, every time you take a photo with our device (Android or iOS) DropBox rise a copy of it to a folder called “Camera Upload” .

Thanks to this we have half the job done, actually almost everything that the other half we let another great use of OS X: Automator.

Once DropBox synchronization enabled, this will have to do after installing the application in the corresponding mobile device, we have to open Automator and follow these steps:

iPhoto

  • Select as document type “Folder Action”.
  • How

  • source folder for action, select Camera Uploads folder on the right side of the window.
  • Now drag the action “Import Files into iPhoto” a folder action.
  • In this step you can customize what you want to happen once you detect new photos: add images to an event or create a new one.
  • Now we save the folder action.

Ready! Now every time you take a photo with your Android device, or any other device that supports this feature in DropBox, iPhoto will create a new event and add that image automatically without needing to do anything … almost almost like Photo Stream.

Now iPhoto will be responsible for uploading your image to iCloud and then sync with your other devices automatically.
