Facebook for Android is installed through Google Play and platform dependent to manage updates and notifications. Now it is no longer so

A large percentage of active Facebook users connected to this network through the Android operating system, and for this reason all the updates and notifications are managed through Google Play, Google platform. To avoid relying on Google, Facebook is preparing a plan to wean its Android platform.

According to sources close to the project, Facebook would be working on a contingency plan for the app keep it running on Android even stay outside the Google ecosystem. Android is an open system, but Google Play applications should follow the guidelines of Mountain View.

Amazon, the closest example

Amazon, for example, has its own shop Android applications that can not be downloaded from Google Play (that does not comply with the policies of the service). To install Amazon Apps must download an APK file and open it with a file manager or installer of Android, which can be a barrier to entry for many users.

According to the report, Facebook is developing a similar application, which does not depend on Google to update or to deliver push notifications. One of the biggest advantages of getting out of Google Play is that payments within the app can be managed without going through Google’s servers, with its own system of payments.

It is not the first time Facebook testing new things on Android. A few years ago launched Facebook Home, a launcher failed to change the look of the phone to provide centralized expertise in Facebook. Had emerged months before the rumor that Mark Zuckerberg forced engineers to use Android instead of an iPhone to improve the user experience in the operating system of Google
