New danger threatens Android devices – Informador.com.mx

MEXICO CITY (07 / Oct / 2015) .- More than one billion smartphones Android are vulnerable to a new security flaw called Stagefright 2.0, security experts warn .

According to information from The Guardian website, visiting a website or previewing a song file or video infected, could allow an attacker access to the victim’s mobile and execute remote code, seizing and of it to install other programs or just steal your personal information.

This is the evolution of the Stagefright failure (released in 2008), as it now affects versions Android 5.0 or higher and is more discreet. In addition, the previous version required a phone number to send malware via a text message, but in this version no user information is needed; because it allows access to a wider audience.

The vulnerability affects even smartphones that had the original patch Stagefright such as Google Nexus devices and Samsung Galaxy S6.

Mark James, Eset specialist firm, said that Google describes the situation as “critical” because of the possibility of remote code execution as the MediaServer service, with access to audio and video cell.

The company also alluded Symantec users to not hear or see previews of music or movies via the mobile browser as it would be the most common form of infection . Experts recommend doing the above actions until the new patch is developed.
