Vulnerability affects 1 billion Android devices – ElTiempo.com

Android remains easy target for cybercriminals to spread malicious files.

This time, computer experts revealed to the newspaper ‘The Guardian’ a security breach which they called Stagefright 2.0, which has caused 1,000 million Android devices worldwide are in danger.

According to The Guardian, Google was notified of this decision in August and called as a “serious” situation. Google said it is sending security updates to mobile LG, Samsung, Nexus, among others, to solve the problem.

According Marck James, security specialist at ESET, this bug (error software) allows hackers to install “malware” through the use of MP3 and MP4 videos format. “Visiting a web page and played a song or video, cybercriminals have the opportunity to access our phone and execute remote code to steal personal information and supplant our identity,” added James.

What’s impressive attack it is the ease with which criminals operate, because since it is not necessary to request permission from the person to run the virus. 2.0 Stagefright spreads automatically at the time that any file is played online.
