New malware infects Android devices – The Nacional.com

The security company FireEye announced that it has identified a new malware targeting Android devices in over 20 countries worldwide. It is Kemoge and is passed by common operating system applications, which are used by users through advertising.

These applications mimic the app who are in the Play Store for Google, as Smart Touch, Calculator, Talking Tom, Light Browser, Privacy Lock and Easy Locker, and attack the device after installation.

The way the malware operates is that the attacker goes applications to stores and promotes third-party virtual download links through various sites and advertising within other programs. Once installed, Kemoge collects device information and goes to their own servers.

It has also been reported that the malware is able to enter the “root access” of users’ computers and modify the content smartphone. According to FireEye, the most vulnerable Kemoge devices are those from Samsung, HTC and Motorola.

The recommendation of experts to not suffer a hack is always to download any application from the official Google store and avoid doing so by advertising that often appears in other applications.
